Eye exams are recommended every two years for adults age 20-64. After 65, eye exams are covered by OHIP every year and a half. Please be prepared for dilating drops at your exam, and bring either sunglasses or a driver if coming from far away.

Although some children may have symptoms related to visual issues such as squinting,
headaches, and poor reading, others may have no symptoms at all.
Children are recommended to have their first eye exam before they turn 4 years old. After that, vision should be evaluated yearly. These exams are fully covered by OHIP until they are 19 years old.

Diabetes can spread to many parts of the eye. Uncontrolled blood sugar levels can result in fluctuations in vision. Over time, this can put patients at a higher risk of permanent vision loss, cataracts, and even glaucoma. In its early stages, diabetic retinopathy can present with no symptoms.
This is why we recommend diabetic patients have their eyes examined yearly. The exam itself is OHIP covered, but we also take regular scans of the retina due to the higher risk of eye diseases.
Contact lenses have gained tremendous popularity over the years. Our team can help you find the right brand, fit, size, and type of contacts. During the contact lens exam, we will determine your prescription (which is usually different from your glasses prescription).
We then teach our patients how to successfully insert /remove their new lenses, and have them take a trial set of lenses home. That way patients can best evaluate whether the contact lenses are right for their day to day activities. Regular ocular health exams are important to also avoid possible contact lens complications
Our initial assessment will predetermine your eligibility for corrective eye surgery. Then, we coordinate your surgery with the laser clinic of your choice. Following surgery, we can carry out most of your postoperative follow up visits.

At our eye exams, a technician will first perform a few basic tests before seeing the optometrist. The optometrist will then bring you in to check your vision prescription needs and ocular health. Please plan for your exam to take at least an hour. Afterwards, you may speak to one of our optometric assistants to select the right frame and lens type to suit your needs.

Dilating eye drops will likely be used during your exam. This is a crucial step in order for our doctors to properly check your eye health.
